It’s that time of the half-year again when the next version of the Ubuntu-based distributions is released.
Today (October 23, 2014) Ubuntu, Xubuntu, Kubuntu, Ubuntu GNOME, and others have been released in their official 14.10 non-beta versions.
Ubuntu GNOME 14.10 running perfectly in VirtualBox 4.3.18. Runs better after installing the VirtualBox Guest Additions. As always, the first thing to do is peruse the default wallpapers and become oriented with the operating system.
Trying something new: Ubuntu GNOME 14.10.
Decided to try a different distribution while the ol’ faithful distributions download.
Xubuntu 14.10 64-bit does not install or run properly in VirtualBox 4.3.18 r96516 as shown here. This is usually a VirtualBox issue that tends to be fixed in future VirtualBox releases since it has happened many times in the past immediately following new distribution releases. For some reason, VirtualBox is not always compatible with the latest Linux releases. All previous distributions that I have tried, including Xubuntu 14.04 and earlier, run well in VirtualBox 4.3.18.
Time will reveal the value and reliability of 14.10, but for now, it is time to install and enjoy!
