DROP MT3 Cyber Keycap Set for Mechanical Keyboards

📅 November 30, 2022
“Is a more expensive keycap set better quality?”

We would assume that quality and price should be related, right? This is what I wondered, so I decided to try out an MT3 profile set of keycaps from the legendary DROP.

Well, the results are somewhat disappointing that debunk this assumption, and here are my thoughts.

Akko Macaw ASA Profile Keycaps for Typing Fun

📅 November 24, 2022
In the quest to improve the Linux command line typing experience, I experimented with a keyboard alteration apart from switches, foam, or lubing: keycaps!

Will changing the keycaps make a typing difference? How about a visual one?

I swapped out the keycaps on a modified Ducky Horizon One 2 keyboard with a decent-quality set of Akko ASA profile caps to see what would happen. Will I become a better typist?

Here are my thoughts of this surprisingly good set of keycaps.

WS Silent Switches for Mechanical Keyboards

📅 November 16, 2022
“How quiet can we go?”

Mechanical keyboards are fun!

Especially if you type a lot. A quality keyboard can enhance the Linux terminal command-line warrior skills or turn it into an arduous process of typos. After testing the custom keyboard waters, I can definitely see the appeal as we are able to carefully craft every aspect of the keyboard in to “just the right” acoustics, “just the right” typing touch, “just the right” weight, “just the right” aesthetics, and so on.

The switch is no doubt one of the most important components. If you have a swappable keyboard, such as the Ducky One 3, that allows switches to be removed and replaced, that is the best option because it allows you to experiment with different switches. Switches can make a keyboard feel and behave drastically different.

Is there a quiet keyboard switch?

I had the opportunity to experiment with a new set of switches (new for me, at least) from Wuque Studio that claim to be “silent” factory lubed switches. With white exteriors, they look clean and modern, but are they truly quiet?

Here are my opinions about this switch in a modded Ducky One 3 keyboard.

Installing Windows 11 in VirtualBox 7.0.2

📅 November 6, 2022
If, for some reason, you need to install Windows 11 inside a virtual machine running VirtualBox, it is now possible to do so without any registry hacks that bypass TPM (Trusted Platform Module) now that VirtualBox 7.0 supports TPM 2.0 for guest operating systems.

However, if you need to install Windows 11 on a test system (or any other system) where an Internet connection is not possible, you will find yourself halted during the OS installation. You might even encounter the EFI shell instead of the Windows installer. What to do?

A Windows 11 VM installation is more hassle than it is worth, so here are a few workarounds I tried to install the latest Windows 11 22H2 in VirtualBox 7.0.2 running on Ubuntu Cinnamon 22.04.
